Today begins the first day of National Infertility Week. Infertility has always been a taboo topic even though we have been primed and educated to think about having children since we were children.
The sad thing is 1 in 8 couples are impacted by this heartbreaking condition, and unfortunately, we rarely talk about it despite this disease being so common.
I’m 1 in 8 who has experienced infertility, I’m I in 4 who has experienced a miscarriage, and I was 1 in 50 pregnancies who had experienced an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.
I haven’t really shared my story as I spent a number of years feeling ashamed, broken, and alone. I realize it had been my choice not to share initially, but it also took me a number of years to gain the courage, understand grief, embrace the vulnerability, talk about it, find the knowledge that would allow me to step into my power, see this challenge as a gift, and advocate for fertility rights.
This journey, right here, is the reason why I decided to become a life coach specializing in change and wellbeing. I never want anyone to feel alone no matter what they are going through.
If you have recently been diagnosed or are currently fighting the fight, know that you are not alone.
If you know someone who is in the journey, support them, ask questions, and be there the way they need you to be there.
Infertility or delayed fertility (what I like to call it), can be a lot to process. Through support, knowledge, and advocacy, I hope someday we are able to talk about this more candidly, normalize it, and advance the area of fertility.
A little later in the week I will share my story through my blog on sweethoneybeelife.com.
In the meantime, if you have or are currently experiencing fertility challenges, please send me a message. I’m always here to listen and support. And remember, hope is still alive, you just have to believe and create a little bit of action.
Let’s stand together!
